The teams are the minor league affiliates of the NBA Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons, respectively, and their rosters feature players who play with the NBA teams but are on assignment to the G-League or under “two-way” contracts, as well as players on standard G-League contracts.
One of the players on the Motor City Cruise roster is Ryan Turell. Ryan played college basketball at Yeshiva University. As a senior in 2021-22, Ryan was the highest scorer across all levels of college basketball averaging 27.1 points per game and was named NABC Division III National Player of the Year. He led YU to one of the longest winning streaks in NCAA Division III men’s college basketball history.
Ryan was selected by the Cruise in the first round of the 2022 NBA G League Draft, and is the first orthodox Jew to play in the G League. Ryan wears his kippah during games. You can read more about Ryan Turell in an article in The Times of Israel here.
