FRIDAY EVENING - Our Kabbalat Shabbat service helps us move from the hectic work week to the beauty and holiness of Shabbat. The melodies are soulful and uplifting.
During the winter months when the sunsets early, services begin around sunset time. In the summer, services begin at 6:30 PM. One a month we have our N’Ranenah Service, which is filled with even more song and joy. On weeks with N’ranenah the service is at 6:30 PM regardless of sunset time.
SATURDAY MORNING – Temple Israel is proud to offer several different opportunities to engage in prayer, study and fellowship on Saturday morning.
Sanctuary Service: The Torah service and reading from the Torah is at the center both physically and temporally. The Kabbalistic Zohar teaches that when Torah is read aloud we should comport ourselves as if we are standing at Mount Sinai hearing the Torah from Moses. We are proud to have an ever growing cadre of congregants reading Torah. Cantor Frieder and others are ready willing and able to anyone interested learn to read Torah.
The Torah service is also an opportunity to communally observe life’s milestones.
The Sanctuary service begins at 8:45 AM with the p’sukei d’zimrah opening prayers. The shacharit morning services at 9:00 AM. The first mourners’ kaddish is approximately 9:30 AM.
Siddur Study Session and Havurah Service: Twice a month we have our Havurah service. The Havurah service is a participatory, more intimate, abbreviated service focusing on communal singing and a Torah discussion. On weeks with a Havurah service there is a siddur study at 9:30 AM and the service begins at 10:00 AM. Click here for the calendar to see upcoming dates.
Unlocking and Enriching Jewish Prayer: On the first shabbat of the secular month during the school year at 10:30 AM. Join Rabbi Schweber for a study session to learn ideas, language, and tools that will enrich your experience of the shabbat morning service.

Communal Kiddush and Programs: When all of the services finish we gather together for a communal kiddush to make new friends and see old friends. On a regular basis, Cantor Frieder offers a singing niggun circle and there are informative Shabbat talks lead by clergy, congregants and special guests.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON – As shabbat comes to a close we have the minhah afternoon service which includes beginning the reading of the next week’s Torah portion. To symbolize shabbat’s physical and spiritual refreshment we have se'udah shelisheet the third (and light) meal of shabbat. We study Torah and sing songs. Shabbat then ends with the evening service and havdalah. It is about 30 minutes before sunset. Check calendar for start times.
