Burton has served the synagogue as President for the past four years. He led the efforts to reimagine the delivery of programming and services for our membership as well as the creation of new protocols for the safety of our congregation when we needed to change course in March 2020 due to COVID. Under his leadership, Temple Israel has not only overcome major challenges but has thrived. Before becoming President of Temple Israel, Burton served as a Vice President on the Executive Committee and in prior years as a member of the synagogue’s Board of Trustees, as Treasurer of the Men’s Club, and as a member of the Finance Committee. Burton is currently Deputy Mayor of the Village of Thomaston. Professionally, he is a bankruptcy/restructuring attorney, currently of Counsel to Garfunkel Wild, P.C. where he was previously a partner.
Joyce served on the synagogue’s Board of Trustees, was a member of the Religious School Education Committee, served on the Presidents Council, was a member of the Ritual Committee, and is a member of Sisterhood. She is on the board of the EmpTInesters affinity group. She became an Adult Bat Mitzvah at Temple Israel 25 years ago. Joyce has participated in Kol Isha (women-led) Shabbat services. Outside of Temple Israel, Joyce is a member of the Shireinu Choir of Long Island.
The Westons are parents of Ian, who is married to Lisa, and Pia. They have two grandchildren.
Recently, Joyce and Burton took a dream trip to Italy, spending almost a month in Florence, Italy, studying the language, art history, and culture.
Please join us at the Gala Dinner Dance as we celebrate the Weston’s dedication to Temple Israel with a theme of “An American in Italy,” based on their recent adventures as two Americans in Italy.
