Remembering a Hero: Matan Leor
Matan’s parents, Sara’le and Opher Leor, will present the horrific events that occurred at the Nova Festival. On October 7, 2023, amidst the horrific attack on the Nova music festival, Matan Leor, a 35-year-old sound engineer, emerged as a true hero. While Hamas terrorists murdered 414 innocent lives, Matan’s quick thinking and immense bravery saved countless others. Instead of seeking his own escape, he used the festival’s sound system, the very equipment he was in charge of, to guide people toward emergency exits, shouting desperately until his voice gave out. His heroic actions were corroborated by eyewitnesses and videos, with his mother, Sara’le Lior, stating that Matan “saved almost 100 lives.” Matan tragically lost his own life that day, a sacrifice that speaks volumes about his character. His family remembers him as a person overflowing with “giving, kindness, love for people and a desire to help everyone around him.” Matan’s story stands as a powerful testament to the individual acts of courage displayed during the massacre and serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating events of that day. His self-sacrifice embodies his unwavering commitment to helping others, even in the most perilous circumstances, and ensures his memory, along with all 414 victims, will never be forgotten.
