Guest speaker: Kevin Campbell, the past president of the Alert Fire Company. He is also a past president of the Alert Fire Department Benevolent Association.
Mr. Campbell, a lifelong resident of Great Neck, not only has actively served the fire department for many years, but also is a retired New York City police officer. For 11 years he was the community affairs officer for the 101st Precinct in Far Rockaway. On 9/11, after working an overnight shift, he was on his way home to Great Neck when the planes hit the World Trade Center. He immediately turned around and headed to Downtown New York to help. He had a major accident on his way into Manhattan, but for many days after participated in the search for Great Neck Vigilant firefighter Jonathan Ielpi.
As a retired policeman, he now provides security for one of the Great Neck synagogues. I am sure the story of his activities on 9/11 and afterwards will make the Temple Israel service even more meaningful.
