Our Services
Shabbat
Kabbalat Shabbat
At our Kabbalat Shabbat service on Friday evening, we welcome Shabbat with prayer and song. Check the Calendar for service times
N’Ranenah
Once a month we come together for this special joyous, participatory, song-filled Kabbalat Shabbat service.
Shabbat Morning Service
Our Shabbat morning services are held in the Main Sanctuary. Our service includes reading the entire Torah portion each week, traditional prayer, spirited congregational singing, a weekly Torah commentary, the commemoration and celebration of lifecycle events, and a sermon. We encourage congregational participation in all aspects of our Shabbat services.
Havurah
The Havurah service is an abbreviated service, lasting about two hours, based on maximum group participation, much singing of the prayers, and a lengthy discussion of the Torah reading. At each service different members of the group lead various parts, read Torah, and lead the discussion. Before the service there is a half-hour study session on a passage from the Siddur.
Kiddush
In the Kiddush that follows the Shabbat or Festival service, there is time to visit with friends, to discuss the message conveyed in the morning’s Torah Commentary or sermon, and to enjoy some refreshment. Often, members of the congregation participate in or sponsor the Kiddush.
Other Services
Machon
Temple Israel’s Machon Family Service is offered every other Shabbat for all fifth through seventh grade students and their parents. This service, led by Rabbi Adelson, serves as a bridge between the Junior Congregation and the Main Sanctuary service. Students and their families participate in a modified service which includes prayers, Torah reading, lively discussion, and a kiddush. 10:30 am - 12:00 pm in the Multipurpose Room.
Junior Congregation
For Kindergartners through fourth graders...Games, skits, and stories every Shabbat in the Chapel from 10:30 am until noon, followed by our own kiddush in the Pine Room.
Toddler Service
Join Morah Ronnie (Katz) every Shabbat and holiday for a fun service which runs approximately 45 minutes. Designed for children through age 4 and their parents, the Toddler Service includes lots of singing, dancing, storytelling, marching with the Torah and, of course, kiddush. This is a perfect introduction to Temple Israel for parents and children and a great way for young families to meet and make new friends. 11:15 am - 12:00 pm in Room 1.
Our daily Minyan
Our daily Minyanim are a vital part of our synagogue life. They meet mornings and evenings each weekday and Sunday in the Chapel which gives an atmosphere of intimacy with Torah reading on Monday and Thursday mornings, and Saturday mincha. The daily minyan allows those saying Kaddish for a loved one to do so. We encourage all synagogue families to participate in our Minyanim.
The Minyan generally meets at the following times:

Cemetery
Temple Israel owns and maintains cemetery sections at Beth Moses Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York. Our plots are available for sale to current Temple members, and for burial of persons of the Jewish faith. Beth Moses offers a tranquil and dignified setting as a final resting place for loved ones.
We urge our members to “plan ahead” and purchase a plot while your family is in good health. Waiting for the moment when the necessity of finding a place for a burial finally occurs, can be stressful and create unnecessary financial pressure for those families at a difficult time.
For more information, contact Executive Director Leon Silverberg at the Temple office, (516) 482-7800.
