Museum

The Temple Israel of Great Neck Judaica Museum was built in 1964 with seed money from a congregant and with the blessings of Rabbi Mordecai Waxman. We started with a borrowed exhibit from the Jewish Museum in New York.

With the help of some very knowledgeable people at the New York Museum and a most informed private collector, Temple Israel volunteer curators learned to pick and to choose only the best objects.  Congregants have dedicated many pieces in a loved one’s honor or memory, or for a special resonance with the object. There are nearly 200 good and unusual antiquities, and congregants visit after services on Shabbat and holidays, and by appointment. Exhibits are changed to underline holiday uses of the objects.

This museum is indeed an ongoing project that gives delight and knowledge to many.
