Temple Israel ARMS

Men’s Club

The Temple Israel Men’s Club brings together men of various ages, interests, and level of observance who share a commitment to providing service to our synagogue and to society in general. Members enjoy the camaraderie of being part of a group of Jewish men leading good lives as examples to our families as well as our community.

The Men’s Club runs many programs throughout the year, including an opening breakfast; the Rabbinic Dialogue, in which Rabbi Stecker engages in discussion with rabbis from neighboring synagogues; the “World Wide Wrap,” a day in which Temple members join with Jews throughout the world putting on tefillin as a sign of their commitment to Judaism; an annual Shabbat service and dinner; a 9/11 Memorial Service; Yom Hashoah candle distribution to each Temple family; an annual blood drive; and a break fast following Yom Kippur.

The Men’s Club spearheaded the operation of the Hatzilu Rescue Organization, helping the Jewish poor and elderly, as well as a Thanksgiving turkey program that provides turkeys for the less fortunate. We also provide ushers for many Temple events and services.

Monthly meetings include a light dinner and frequently a guest speaker. This is usually followed by lively card games and kibitzing. We invite all to join this most dynamic arm of the synagogue.

Sisterhood

The Sisterhood of Temple Israel is a dynamic group of women actively involved in enterprises that enrich the congregation, the community, and Eretz Yisrael. With an emphasis on love of family and faith in God, the Jewish people and Israel, the Sisterhood offers programs to meet the changing needs of our diverse membership. It provides an opportunity for every woman to become a more educated, highly involved member of the community in a setting where she can form lasting friendships. The heart and soul of the Temple, Sisterhood welcomes your participation and support.

Shalom Club

Serving the Temple Israel community for over 35 years the Shalom Club is dedicated to enhancing Jewish life through friendship, study and support of the Temple and the greater Jewish community.

At the Club’s monthly meetings, members enjoy panel discussions on a wide range of Jewish topics. Past Club trips have included the Jewish Chapel at West Point, the Jewish communities in Philadelphia and New Haven, the Center for Jewish History, and Ellis Island. An annual Chanukah party raises funds for Temple Israel and other worthy causes and funds the Shalom Club Shelf of the Temple Library.

Committees

Bikur Cholim/Yad B' Yad

The Bikur Cholim Committee serves our synagogue by performing the mitzvah of visiting the sick whether at home, in local hospitals, or in rehabilitation centers. Volunteers, all of whom receive training from the Bikur Cholim committee, feel as though they have truly made a difference in someone’s life, even if it is only for a phone call or a short visit.

Endowment Committee

The Endowment Committee is responsible for directing the investments of the Temple’s Endowment Fund, which was established in 1980. The Endowment Committee plays a vital role in financing the future of the Temple, overseeing the Fund’s investment portfolio and determining the amount to be transferred to subsidize the Temple’s operating costs. Contributing to the Endowment Fund is a special way members can commemorate important simchas, honor family members, memorialize the passing of a loved one, or simply help the Temple continue its vital work.

Pastoral Committee

Temple Israel's Pastoral Committee consists of caring TIGN members. They support families during times of bereavement. Committee members make personal visits to the homes of those who have suffered a loss, bringing meaningful books, leading or participating in Shivah Minyanim. and letting our members know that they are not alone in their time of sorrow.

Shoah Committee

The Shoah Remembrance Committee is dedicated to remembering the lessons of the Holocaust, honoring the Survivors and educating all to the evil of hatred and anti-Semitism. The work of this committee includes an annual Kristallnacht commemoration, Yom HaShoah observance, and the publication of the powerful Zachor Book memorializing relatives of Temple members lost in the Shoah.

Yad B'Yad (Hand to Hand)

Yad B'Yad (Hand to Hand), organized and funded by the Sisterhood of Temple Israel, assists members in time of illness, emergency, family death and other crisis situations. Volunteers bring food, provide transportation, do grocery shopping, help with car pools and provide other support services, when daily life is interrupted by unforeseen events.
